Do People Still Read Long Emails? (What a 2,338-Word Email Taught Me)

By  Csaba Borzasi

The right people do. Readers who become buyers consume your stuff first – that’s how they get to know, like and trust you. My 2,338-word story email (email 3 of my welcome sequence) got replies like “refreshingly interesting” and “you are gladly welcome in my inbox”. Long works when it’s a story they can see themselves in.

Every once in a while, some low-IQ guru wannabe gets the bright idea that long-form copy doesn’t work anymore.

Their reasoning?

Something along the lines of:

“In the age of TikTok, nobody consumes long-form content anymore”

…or…

“People are lazy and they all want instant gratification”

…or…

“Long-form copy USED to work when there were fewer distractions, but it doesn’t work anymore on smartphones”

…or my favorite…

“People’s attention spans are 3-4 seconds nowadays. That’s less than a goldfish!”

Well…

Although that *might* be true in some cases…

Here’s a question for you:

Do you want a business full of goldfish…

Or customers?

Do you want readers or goldfish?

What’s that?

You want “goldfish” with 3-4 second attention spans???!!

By all means… be my guest :)

I’m sure you’re going to have A LOT of fun running and growing that business ;)

BUT…

If you want people who actually DO something…

(like read your stuff, click your links, and buy your offers)

Then I’d say you want actual customers, instead of goldfish.

A list full of goldfish (3-4 second attention spans) vs customers (read your stuff, click your links, buy your offers)

And you know what actual customers do BEFORE… actually becoming customers?

(okay, okay… enough with all these “Actual”s!)

Well…

They ACTUALLY

(I almost put a Pulp Fiction meme here. You know the one.)

Okay, okay… no more “Actual”…

Jeeez louise!

Anyway…

Where was I?

Oh yeah…

Why does long copy still work?

Before people act… become customers, they first consume your content…

They gradually start to Know, Like, and Trust you…

And they slowly start to believe that YES, your solution is different and superior compared to anything else they’ve seen before.

And once they believe that so-called “One Buying Belief”, you got ’em.

(in a good way)

However, this DOES NOT reliably happen without them consuming your stuff.

If you only give them short-form copy, this deeper bonding will never happen!

So that’s one of the primary reasons why long-copy still WORKS.

(and will continue to work until we’re all transformed into androids by AI)

Still don’t believe me?

Let me PROVE it to you!

What do readers say about a 2,338-word email?

Here are just a handful of replies I got to the 3rd email in my imprinting sequence over a few days…

…A 2338-word (!) monster of an email that shares my story!

And notice what people say in their replies:

“Well, THAT was a refreshingly interesting email that I can relate to.

Very nice.

I will now go look at some of your Youtube videos, and yes, please continue to email me…for now, lol.”

A new subscriber, reply to email 3 of my welcome sequence

“refreshingly interesting email” –> Despite being almost 8 pages (!) long

“Your story is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

You are gladly welcome in my inbox.

Looking forward to reading and learning from some of your best stuff.”

Another new subscriber, reply to the same email

“Your story is interesting” –> Why? Because I shared all the nitty-gritty in great detail

“I’m replying so your email service can mark me as an engaged subscriber.

I have not worked on my email sequence yet. But plan on reading all your emails and the great book soon.

Loved your thank you page!! Learned a lot already just by watching you.”

A third new subscriber, reply to the same email

“Learned a lot already just by watching you” –> If that doesn’t build KLT, I don’t know what does!

But here’s probably my favorite from this batch:

A reader sent me a long, very personal reply about where he was in life… and how close it felt to the story I told.

It ended like this:

“Thank you for sharing your story with me… I just found myself in your story and I sincerely replied to it.”

Notice all the personal bonding and “opening up” that’s already happening.

“Thank you for sharing your story with me”

“I just found myself in your story and I sincerely replied to it.”

Sure…

This guy probably couldn’t afford my coaching or my paid products right now…

But do you think he feels much more like he Knows, Likes, and Trusts me compared to NOT receiving this long-form 2338-word (!) monster of an email?

The answer is clear.

I rest my case.

When should an email be long?

Long isn’t the goal. Bonding is. Long is just what it takes to tell a real story properly.

1. Make your longest email a story, not a lecture. Mine is how I got here – the nitty-gritty, the low points, the turning point.

2. Put it early. Mine goes out as the 3rd email after someone joins. That’s when they’re most curious about who you are.

3. Give them a reason to reply. A reply tells you the email landed… and tells the inbox you’re someone they want to hear from.

4. Judge it by the replies, not the open rate. Goldfish don’t write back.

That 2,338-word email is email 3 of my own imprinting sequence.

If you want to build yours – the sequence that turns new subscribers into people who actually read, reply and buy – the method is inside my Profitable Imprinting Sequence training.
